Beyond the Markets: Health, Purpose & Our Future
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! Following up on my last emailed update/Newsletter/Blog Post in late March (in which I correctly warned about inflation and interest rate risk amongst other things) I wanted to check in on some other issues that are infinitely more important to all our lives.
- “A healthy man wants a thousand things; a sick man only wants one”. Confucious.
- “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” Jesus Christ.
In talking to a number of my clients, I am picking up a recurring theme, many of you are experiencing a substantial decrease in energy, mood, and meaning. I will give a brief update on how I have successfully counteracted these situations myself.
- First of all, I would strongly recommend that all of you get in for your annual physical (preferably with a Functional Medicine Doctor or Integrative Medicine Dr. to compliment your Board-Certified Internal Medicine specialist) and get extensive blood, urine, MRI, and even stool analysis. There has been some dramatic improvements in early detection, treatments, and sometimes reversal of what was commonly considered to be simply “old age”. You must be your own best advocate and often push for many of these exams (and be willing to pay extra for them).
- Sleep. We need adequate and high quality sleep (typically about 7-8 hours) preferably at the same nightly time (before 10pm), at somewhat cooler temperatures, quiet, and above all….”no light”. Alcohol and over the counter sleep aids are no substitute for this and may cause the quality of our sleep to suffer. Many of you (including me) may suffer from “Sleep apnea” which your Dr. can test for in the comfort of your home.
- Daily sunlight (especially in the morning). Getting direct sunlight the first thing in the morning (you can do this with your morning coffee or tea) is so important to help optimize your Vitamin D, hormone levels, circadian rhythm, mental function, energy, moods, and even blood pressure.
- Eating non processed (ideally organic) foods with an emphasis on multiple veges, fruits, and pasture raised/wild caught proteins.
- Daily movement….at least 30 minutes per day….walking, bike riding, full on workout, hiking, swimming….etc.
- Getting or keeping involved with loved ones such as family, community groups, religious community, etc.
- Asking your medical professional (after getting enhanced labs, bloodwork, tests, etc) what if any improvements, changes, and perhaps supplements you should be taking.
- Daily meditation or prayer……there is so much science behind this. It has been shown to improve everything from energy, to moods, to health span, to even lifespan!
Now, instead of the usual political/partisan divisions (which are of course perpetuated by social media and some tech platforms) ALL of us need to be aware of AI (artificial intelligence) and the potential risks for all of humanity! Please take 10 minutes of the time you spend on social media and other online activities and read these (2)letters (from one of the All-time Top Hedge Fund Manager/Founders, Paul Tudor Jones on the Wall Street Journal) and the others from Bill Gates (no explanation needed) Fast Company. Both publications (and especially the authors) are HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL, SMART, and immensely respected throughout the world and their domains.
There are a few things in life much more important than money…..and I strongly encourage each and everyone of you (clients of mine or not) to read these (2) letters and contact your Congressman http://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
AND Senators and voice your concerns that we need a “pause” on this “runaway development of Artificial Intelligence” and “National Strategy” for AI Safety.
