Finding Your Fit

I came from poverty, am now financially “free,” and a self-made high-net-worth investor myself.

Client Centered

From a small town in West Virginia, the “unpaved” road I took to my current position was long, bumpy, and quite unique.  As a boy, I watched my mother struggle to put food on the table, cleaning houses, living in public housing, and depending on public assistance – before she went back to college and became a teacher.

As a teenager, I picked crops, carried large stones from the woods, and loaded them for shipment and sale to wealthy individuals in the D.C. area.  Later, I worked in a truck/repair shop and as an amateur boxer.  While my friends were able to enjoy their childhoods, I became passionate about pursuing my goals through relentless determination.

After paying my way through West Virginia University, I headed west in 1999 – my first airplane trip and first time crossing the Mississippi – as one of 100 UBS Financial Securities trainees nationwide.  After two years, I was one of only a few to graduate the rigorous program (and the last one out of 90 to graduate in Las Vegas for a decade).  Working six, 14-hour days a week (including most holidays), I immersed myself in the markets, investor behavior, and especially the philosophies of the world’s iconic investors, such as Carl Icahn, Warren Buffett, and Ray Dalio.

During the Dot Com upheaval of 2000, I developed the investment philosophy I practice today.  I remind clients to resist the herd mentality that can push them into investments, regardless of their underlying merit.  Embracing my clients’ aspirations, realities, and needs, I am committed to formulating customized strategies beyond just dollars and cents.

I utilize a disciplined, goal- and outcome-oriented process for my clients.  In addition to traditional stocks, bonds, and exchange traded funds (ETFs), I offer clients access to alternative investments, including private equity, real estate, and hedge funds.  This allows my clients the opportunity to incorporate non-correlated assets that I deem attractive and affordable.

Since being recruited in 2021, my fact-based approach has attracted clients who welcome my focus on pursuing financial freedom, customized risk management strategies, borrowing costs, and asset preservation.  Many are active and retired business owners.  Others are engineers, physicians, attorneys, executives, recent “tax refugees” from other states, and generations of their families.

Many of my clients are risk-averse – looking to mitigate risk and grow wealth for themselves and the people and causes that are most dear to them.  When possible, I conduct multigenerational meetings, so that children and grandchildren can appreciate original work ethic, the responsibilities of inheriting wealth, and how optimizing their family and charitable legacy can help make the world a better place.

With many business owners looking to sell or pass along their enterprises, I have developed a strong competency in helping them plan and prepare for liquidity events.  I also assist with 401(k) plans and other retirement plans.  For all clients, I align tax-advantaged and estate planning strategies with your other wealth professionals, such as CPAs and attorneys.

A lifetime learner, I hold the Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM designation through the College for Financial Planning and the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA®) designation.

I follow the deep-seeded tradition of participating in the communities we serve.  This drives my interest in spending time volunteering with organizations in our community.  I am active with environmental conservation for Lake Tahoe and Southern Nevada.  I support Keep Tahoe Blue, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Catholic Charities for Child Development, Singularity University, Las Vegas Angel Investors, and the SENS Foundation.

I am a longtime resident of Henderson and Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and am passionate about living and working in both locations.  My greatest passion is my family – my wife, Camila, and our four-year-old daughter, Isabela.  Known for my high energy inside and outside the office, I am an avid hiker and boater – I have my “captain’s license” and enjoy boating in Lake Mead, Lake Tahoe, Lake Powell, and the Great Lakes.  I also enjoy jet skiing, biking, and camping.
